You don't necessarily freak out the moment something bad happens but shit can still build up inside. Even though I'm not sure if none of this mattered and if lain was even a human at all since the story in lain is vague as shit. If lain was just some program/god/whatever it would just make sense for her to not feel human emotions the same as you.
