Later on it gets much better. The new team even add some recap pages at the end of some chapters to help the reader understand what's going on, or when that stuff was foreshadowed.
Unironically the first 400 chapters are worthy just for the Air Poker bet, not even joking.
What convinced me was the Brazing Bull arc, but to each their own. It gets better anyway
