I just finished Evangelion can't tell if it's smart or stupid

I saw a trailer for the rebuilds that looked cool so I went back and watched the original anime. People keep saying it's so smart or intelligently designed but I honestly can't see that. It just seems like people turn even genuine mistakes about the show into abstract metaphors. I just watched it so maybe I am not getting the whole picture but the ending really left me confused/pissed and I can't tell whether this is just a mess or something very abstract. I don't think I even want to watch the rebuilds even though they looked super cool. It just left me with a very empty/void feeling. If this was the purpose of the show then I guess it succeed. Also after watching the series finally can confirm Rei is best girl.

Don't worry, it's stupid

Yeah the plot was so over the top and complex all for it to mean nothing. It was literally just used all to explain depression and isolation with nothing linking any shit together into a final conclusion.

The fanbase has a thing for making Eva seem deeper than it actually is, Eva in truth is a simple story with a ton of flaws

Evangelion was just supposed to be typical anime shit but the director is an autistic man and had a mental breakdown while making it. It's not really meant to be deep or meaningful.

But retards watched it and thought that not understanding it means it was deep so they built up a cult following and now it is what it is. The director continues to milk it despite hating anime.

That’s one of its main problems that the fan base tries to ignore and if you call it out your filtered, anno just did a very bad job at telling the audience that those things weren’t important and that the main focus is the characters. Also most of the symbolism means nothing it’s either there to look cool or are just references to ultraman

If you have too ask you are already filtered.

Not saying it’s bad, I liked it a lot but the fanbase just makes it seem like anno is playing 4d chess with the audience

>The director continues to milk it despite hating anime.
Anno loves anime. He is just a self-hating otaku.

this

Yeah thanks for confirming I was wondering if I was just stupid or if it was symbolically all tied back together. I feel like 25% of the details which were made to appear important amounted to literally nothing. Not to say it wasn't interesting to watch but they couldn't tie it back to the conclusion making the ending really unfulfilling. You can have complex shows but there has to be a reason for it to tie back together if you can't do that then don't do abstract things with no end in mind

Eva always had its message in mind the thing is that anno just didn’t plan things or just winged it, another thing is just the fanbase making Eva seem deeper than it actually is

What details?

I think he’s talking about things like the Dead Sea scrolls or the spear of Longinus that barely get mentioned or touched upon

The names of these are mostly just throwaway lines but they obviously have a purpose in the story.

Ask me any question about NGE and it will be answered

That sounds more likely then these wild theories I mean I thought the metaphors for human loneliness were alright but why have an entire complex plot just to explain this and then they never fulfilled the reasons for the complexity. It doesn't seem like they had any direction in this and just wanted to make something overly abstract for no reason

do i like nge

I watch evangelion recently to the ending is trash its just shinji recollecting his thoughts after killing gay boy and creator spelling out his message watch end of evangelion it gives a much better end

Yeah they do but but like I siad they barely get touched upon or mentioned despite them being important parts of the plot. The spear of Longinus gets mentioned twice and the scrolls get mentioned only 3 times in Eva’s 25 episodes

Why were the angels so cute?

...

They aren't so important that they need any more mentions. The dead sea scrolls purpose is to show that Gendo and SEELE are following a pre-determined path. and the lance ultimate purpose is just too start instrumentality.

really small rei

In general for confirming a lot of the symbols/over the top plot stuff was literally just background static. I thought the characters were the best part but I really hate when shows build something up then don't ever reach a conclusion from the plot or when it seems like some guy who never read the script makes a conclusion. Maybe it should have been completely character driven and the plot should have been a second tier thing from the start. Instead of doing a show with an over the top plot then try to make it about character development and ignoring the plot.

Eva isn't even that complex. Now you just seem like a retard.

oh noooo something i cant understand must be pseud shit then

Yeah I watched the end of evangelion right after that. It made the ending better and worse in some ways.

Who IS best girl?

Half the show is monster of the week type stuff. And when there isn't any fighting it is almost solely focused on the characters except for some of the Kaji stuff..

Complex is a bad word I just meant there was a lot of shit happening. You can make something really complicated that has no inherent deep meaning or reason at all to it.

Rei of course unless your allowed to pick Misato of course... I would pick her over Asuka for sure

Shinji masturbating..... So hot....

this

I literally watched it at first expecting it to be like one of those shows I watched as a kid with giant monsters. Thought it was like a mature version of some of the shows I watched as a kid. Boy was I wrong.

Was the entire point of the ending to fuck with the audience?

oh boy what a cute little fella i hope nothing bad happens to him

Is asuka a toilet?

no it was a happy ending

I mean I won't say it was bad or null. But I just can't see what people mean when they say it's like insanely layered. It just seems like they couldn't finish a complicated plot and wrote it about the characters at the end. Basically it wasted a lot of time it should have focused on the main message consistently.

Not the ending of EoE.

Which ending lol.

>Thought it was like a mature version of some of the shows I watched as a kid
That's basically what it was.
