Why did Agni kill Doma? Was he suffering from some sort of mental illness?

Anger, depression, resentment, sadness. He thought Doma was lying to him. Even though Doma clearly regretted his past mistakes and lived with the guilt. Agni remembered how he gleefully dispensed "god's will" on him and his sister over a misunderstanding, smiling while burning them alive. He remembered how his sister suffered, how he himself still suffers. He couldn't let Doma live, for his sister's sake. He had to kill him.

But Agni could never do that. He couldn't kill Doma because he'd already forgiven him in his heart. Agni understood that by killing Doma he was condemning many people to death which is against what he and Luna would have wanted, so he had to become Firepunch to exact his revenge.

The scene building up to this is some of the best use of paneling I have ever seen in a manga. It's seriously incredible.

All I see is one background and Agni copypasted four times.

It's because the author is a hack and doesn't know how to write. Just look at chainsawman.

Massive, massive PTSD, minus the P.

Because he deserved it.

Have you read the manga? There's like 8 pages of him slowly starting to lose his smile while having flashbacks of Doma smirking while burning him, Luna burning, etc. and then it cuts to young Luna telling him to murder Doma. It's incredible

I dunno man, it was a pretty entertaining story. I'd say he's not a 10/10 writer, but's, he's good enough.

Then get your eyes checked. They probably used the same sketch, but the inking is clearly not copy/pasted. Final 2 panels are copy/pasted BGs though.

At no point, outside of the story's onset, is "Agni" sane. Everyone and everything he becomes is a reaction against the pain he is experiencing. This pain being both physical and emotional. That's the point. He never becomes Him. He just becomes the next "Agni" they see. Until there is no one left to see him, and then at the final point he becomes "nothing" (not one person) but a satisfied resolution. Maybe? I dunno

Will there ever be another manga like Fire Punch? It's incredible and will stick with me forever

Douma obliterated Agni and the flock Agni sought to nourish because of a misunderstanding. It's only fair that Douma be punished in the exact same manner. Agni was never shown any mercy, and only after Douma so callously committed an atrocity was he in any way remorseful of it. Why should Agni have given him any mercy?

Agni is so mentally fractured that he has multiple severe illnesses running concurrently. Complete ego loss, extremely suicidal, disassociation, mania, PTSD, multiple personas, and so on, all just symptoms of what he has.

Doma was right though man. You read the manga right? He makes a great point. Agni lacked education and he actively regressed humanity and society by subjecting a group to commit an act of cannibalism. Think back to the first chapter with the old man who died from starvation. Agni doesn't understand because he is uneducated, and now his brain is so filled with pure agony he is incapable of understanding human emotion. The whole manga is an act of him lying to himself and others. He should've died with Luna and he knows it. That's the only truth he knows.

What if the point isn't that destruction and creation are the same thing. What if the point is that we can't tell which is which?

>has been on fire and in constant pain for several years, doesn’t even know who he is anymore.
Yeah I’d give a 60/40 chance of mental issues

>The whole manga is an act of him lying to himself and others. He should've died with Luna and he knows it.
This is a fact, and the manga is very blatant with it. I can agree with this 110%

>He makes a great point.
This is where you are missing the point of the manga's characterization. Douma had not become some kind of samaritan hero of the downtrodden, he was an on-the-job murderer no different from those three psychopaths that were sent to kill Agni in the city. They collected slaves and "survivors" with powers to fuel the city to give themselves a cushy life. When the city was destroyed, Douma had nothing, and when the weight of his grievous sins got to him, he tried to do "the right thing". The problem is that in his meager little attempt to do the right thing, he was no greater in his behavior than the Agni he willfully turned into a monster, and his ultimate downfall was the fact that his sins physically came back to haunt him. You can make some kind of autistic argument about how cannibalism isn't the right way to go for a village on the outskirts of civilization that has literally zero potential room for crop growth and extremely little capability to hunt and fish in the middle of an ice age, but that's not the point of the manga.

Light yourself on fire and find out, idiot

Did they ever explain why Agni lost all sensation? Was burning for so long the cause of this? Also volume 5 and onwards is the best part of the story.

Karma

Poetic Justice.

What movie was Fire Punch based off on (stolen from)

Firepunch was a merciless God while Agni was a simple man. Firepunch's role as a false god was supposed to represent control but he never got any. Only as Agni could he make his own decisions, accept his flaws, and move on.

He probably became so used to blocking out the sensation of pain that without it he doesn't feel anything. It's also symbolic, he is nothing without his suffering and freed from revenge, he is empty

>He should've died with Luna and he knows it.
What kind of moral is that? Some people deserve to die just because of the situation they were born in? That's a very nazi worldview there, user.

Based retard.
