Author didn't like the topic or perhaps isn't interested in the topic. REBORNs author made an ice hockey one shot 2 years ago or so but started a detective series recently.

Disagree, it's pretty rough and very generic looking, your eye won't even catch it normally among the other works. If the guy is a good writer, having him working with the experienced artist with distinctive artstyle is much better than him wasting time in hopes to improve "enough" during his first serialization(if it's planned to be a serialization).
