Drag race on highway isn't as exciting as drifting on mountain roads.

Imagine something as dumb as driving on a straight line and when basically the guy with the best car wins.
Initial D is the story of a kid with a shitbox.
Yo will never be the guy with the rare overpowered Porsche, or the middle man with the ferrari, or the kid with an over engineered Nissan.
For me it is more relatable

Initial D at its core is a sports anime and it's structure allows it to be more watchable. It's characters are also better so it non-car people can still get into. That being said I think the Z and the 911 are some of the most beautiful cars of all time

>Takumi's 86
>not souped up form the very beginning

I swear, it dictate what I listen during the 00s thanks to that anime.

Yeah, that makes sense. Even the most powerful car like the R34 wouldn't be a viable option since the anime spell out to you that tire wear is a thing and tire grip conserves is extremely important.

It was well tuned but it wasn't until later in the season it broke stock

Base on my memory, I remember most of the characters from Wangan are depressing idiots that keep wasting money to be some kid with the Z. Compare to Intial D, its just a bunch of kids hanging out and being awe with the slightest drift.

C'mon. It was the representation of an everyday car. The car had only suspension, and a different gearbox done to it. It is very clear around the series that it is severely underpowered.
Of course it not Itsuki's 85, but it is still a shitbox.

Wangan is really melodramatic, I agree

The first part of Stage one explicitly shows us a bunch of characters underestimating the 86 because its old and outdated.

Watch EP4 again. At the beginning of the race Ryosuke states that it ain't a normal 86, but that it still should lose and that the difference is in the driver.

enough of bullshit

Keiichi Tsuchiya. That's the only difference.

Not everyone is as smart as Ryosuke, though. Especially when almost everyone is just an amateur hobbyists.

10/10 OP to boot

When the 86 appeared and started going up the hill for the FD race was the hypest moment in the show with that song in the background.

YTMND using Running in the 90s.

>turns off headlights
>silence
>overtakes a random car on freeway

Man it really fell of after the third stage. Takumi’s gas station friends got sidelined except for the occasional failure with women and didn’t even develop. And the best race after was with the middle aged men. Nothing really compared to the first rival racers.

takahashi vs the grim reaper was neat and of the best ones

but still, i found more interesting that race in this amv

That one was weird with the supernatural elements but I agree.

God Hand was one of my favorite races of the latter half by far

The music.

>For me it is more relatable
That is the keyword. As pointed out, Initial D's story structure and characters are all grounded. I am a non-car guy and the first thing that I thought after the first episode was
>wtf, no accidents?
>Iketani crashes his car.
I was in from that moment on.

That arc was the definition of based boomers. Really enjoy moments like that where the opponents are just in it for the love of racing and wanna share that with someone worthy rather than just inflate their ego.
