Crypto is useless because when we have more powerful computers you will just be able to brute force a private key

Crypto is useless because when we have more powerful computers you will just be able to brute force a private key

Bitcoin will go to zero within a few years as soon as the first quantum computer is built

it will invalidate current protocols but quantum resistance won’t be very hard to implement

Why not just implement penile biometric security?

>muh quantum computer
Stick around - that meme works better in the mornings

it will be for PoW

another reason BTC will fail. ETH will be fine

heheh penile

And LOKI will be fine too

The moment computers can break crypto security, crypto currencies are the last thing you should worry about. At that moment all of the internet, and all banks are completely fucked.

how often can u successfully guess ? fucking kek

what is SHA-1
u ARE a brainlet this has already been theorized, they will move to SHA-3 by the time the computers become that powerful you fucking retard educate yourself

and nuclear launch controllers

this. nice job falling for clickbait and then coming here to advertise your retardation, OP

>(((greenberg)))
opinion discarded

Fake news.

you obviously dont understand the different classes of cryptographic hash algorithms and just like another user said crypto would be the last thing you would have to worry about

I've heard of keeping a condom in your wallet, but keeping your wallet in a condom? Now that's next level thinking.

>penile biometric
Hahaha. Good one!

>quantum computer
As a physicist, I can tell you with 100% certainty, a true usable quantum computer won't exist for at least next 25 years.
The first and most difficult problem: quantum decoherence.
We simply don't have the physical knowledge to prevent this from happening yet.

This. You’re going to have to worry about using up your knee pads in /pmg/

>sha-3
my sides

kek just woke up and fell for a shitpost MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMOOOOOOOODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

I was referring to the inevitable innovation of it but its ok metacommentary is hard even for normal people i can only imagine how hard it is for an autist such as urself

Could you give me a serious qrd as to why it isn't a concern? It's the biggest stopping block to me piling in to crypto.

Enjoy guessing hashes until the end of time to find 37 cents

thats if we ever figure out the proper math to apply at that level
we will prolly be all killed off by this chimpout that has been coordinated by ((them)) and never even make it to a type-1 civilization

Cryopto currencies are essencially built on the same security tech as everything else regarding computers. So it's not as much that it's "Not a concernt" but that crypto currencies are better protected than most of the web. It would be easier to brute force yourself into a computer to take controll over the wallet that way than to actually guess a wallet worth stealing

This may of course change in the future. But so will crypto.

As a /g/ tourist this thread makes me cringe.

The magic chandelier is not going to guess open your encryption, the hardware and software vulnerabilities that governments know about (and possibly pressured manufacturers to create in the first place) that the entire digital infrastructure runs on will.
When the people in charge whose trillions are kept secure globally by encryption start buying these ceiling-mounted Juiceros to handle their finances you should start worrying. Until then it's just daydreaming.

Well its not just private institutions that may have access to them (Google for one), but DARPA is meant to be something like 20 years or so ahead of what we know about.

I mean they might develop new coins once the tech becomes more accessible, but surely the first wave will allow mass mining of new coins or peeking at the blockchain ledger?

the issue is not pow vs pos you mongloid

This isn't hard to do if you're guessing keys generated from weak or common seeds. I found a few BTC wallets myself that didn't belong to me and had small balances. Apparently I wasnt the only one, I kept an eye on the wallets and some had several low value deposits over the course of a few months, but the money was always transferred out within seconds

sorry user but no. the state of the art here is now within govt, and public and private sector progress is very well known. we are still nowhere near anything worth considering.

stupid LARP

better to observe the behavior firsthand for a bit

article says it only affected very weak or corrupt keys

Not a LARP. The take away is don't use a week seed to generate your keys

is this shitcoin still going?

The issue is signatures.
Quantum resistant signing methods can be implemented with a protocol change.

what was the aftermath of this

Sure. Given that Bitcoin uses the same encryption as militaries worldwide, you can be sure that if a quantum computer could be used to break it, foreign militaries would be the target. Then anyone researching a use that revealed how to do it to those same foreign militaries would be offed.

That clearly isn’t happening, therefore quantum computers are not a problem to Bitcoin even if they could be used to break it.

Crypto is Very high risk. BTC could Go to $0 overnight.
Deal with it

Its not like this hasn't been thought of.

The real value is the ledger, not the protocol. For example, you could just fork bitcoin and run it on ethereum. Whatever.
