First season is a bad time no matter where you are in it because they had zero budget and clearly weren't expecting it to be as big as it was by 2012 standards.
Second season takes a few episodes to pick up because they started to recycle plot points but then thought better of it and went in a new direction instead.

First season is fine. It may not have the refined artstyle of the latter seasons but it isn't offensively bad (after the Blu rays came out).
That being said, it does still take like 4-5 episodes before it really picks up.
