The race is implied to be right after Wano, that's when Law's alliance with Luffy dissolves etc. Most Supernovae are in one place too. Doffy's "Throne Wars" haven't quite started yet, this arc kickstarts the Race for One Piece saga.

Thank tangerine and her lesbo furry friends for making it popular, though I'm sure this goes back further than this trio or One Piece, for that matter. Toei liked it so much they have the WorstGen Trio of Law, Luffy and Kid do it in the latest opening.

There's probably still a year of Wano left o r at least the majority of 2021.
Elbaf and Laugh Tale combined might make up another year if not more.
So that makes about 3 years left for the final war against the government and the aftermath. Looks promising.

I think people are underestimating Elbaf's length, we're not looking a Zou arc. It's a Fishman Island situation, it'll just obviously be much higher quality. Fishman Island was teased for a long time and was about 50 chapters, Elbaf will likely be around the same since it was also teased for a long time, but at the same time it can't be too long.
