but sure why not. various forms of abstract money were invented several times throughout history. would probably take a whole generation to get everybody on board with a true fiat currency though. bit more complicated than handing out slips of paper.

Fiat currency been used by the Chinese like back in the Song Dynasty and the French used in the late 1600s.

You just need to be politically stable with a strong central government for it to work + the ability to print/monopolize the money. If we're talking about medieval like the 1400s-1500s and Holy Roman Empire division, yeah-no it is fucked.

EVERYONE that you are trading with has to agree with its worth.
You will need to confiscate ALL the currency that you have created before and declare them worthless after a few years

And be absolutely sure that your people have trust in your economy or else they would not use it and revert to barter which would cause inflation.

Didn't work so well in Faust II, but that is a native isekai.

Is he talking about paper notes or fiat currency? Those are two very different things. Bank notes that can be traded in for gold were common, while fiat backed only by trust was rare and short lived.

But if you want to bash them, why are you not actually bashing THEM rather than made up fiction that doesn't exist and that nobody reads (because it doesn't exist)?
