I'm starting to realize my biggest problem with youjo senki.
Like, the author has a better grasp on geopolitics than just about every other isekai author, but by god he writes every single character but tanya as unrealistically noble and good. By that I mean, like, people seem abhorred by the very concept of skirting around the laws of war, until tanya comes up with a novel way to do so. That's just unrealistic
Like, in OTL, it took germany all of 0.3 seconds to start breaking the versailles treaty in secret, and frankly that's the sort of mindset that I don't see existing in youjo senki without tanya forcing it

I think there are a mixture of causes.
For one, he doesn't want to deal with certain topics.
For another, he's trying to make out Germany as a victim of circumstance.
For a third, well that's her shtick.

Also, you can explain some of the cleanliness with an unreliable narrator.

honestly that sort of thing is more acceptable to whitewash, especially for a series that is, at its core, targeted at teenagers. Writing about wartime rape can get very edgy in a cringe way very fast if the author does not handle it correctly
