The only thing that was good about DEEN/Stay night was the soundtrack and maybe the somewhat close to source art at a stretch. The way they tried to mash all the routes together in the end just didnt work.

It wasn't really in the end though. They added a few episodes where Caster actually did shit, unlike in the VN. It also had more fights with Assassin, a nice tie in with Rin and Sakura, and then went right back to the Fate route entirely.
To be honest the changes they made was okay in my opinion. The only truly awful thing about DEEN/Stay Night was the animation. But it was solid for much of the rest. It's best feature definitely was the soundtrack though.
