Character designs are clearly inspired by Horiguchi who did e.g. Tamako and K-On designs. I want to remember some staff on this used to either work at Kyoani or with Horiguchi before so it's not really a coincidence.
Releasing information so close to the premiere doesn't really bode confidence in this. Even with originals, most of them already had cast and staff information announced ahead of time, up to three months before it actually airs.
