my take is that Vitalik and Sergey see the use case of blockchain and what it can/should do as being completely different things. Vitalik is sort of an autistic utopia idealist who sees blockchains creating some new society. He's also living in a world of autistic numbers and equations in such a debilitating way that he is almost like an alien not able to understand subtlety. Sergey sees the use of smart contracts and blockchain in general as a business application that can merge with the traditional way we do things, and also make the people who use it lots of money. Sergey is a businessman in this way and wants to build something for business and commerce. Vitalik not only has no interest in these types of things, he also doesnt understand them. They are on different planets.

Also i will say that we should distinguish between the two types of "intelligence" youre combining into one thing.
