Guys, intellectually I'm all spooked out. I can't stand philosophy because of all the unfalsifiable garbage. Many fields like economics etc are just applied common sense and stamp collecting. I see novels as nothing but entertainment despite pretentious people claiming life / philosophical insights and tonnes of people will consider you a disgusting plebeian if you don't initially read shitloads of boring as fuck canon novels.
I think I am painfully adapting to the idea of the Internet age / information overload by abandoning any pretension that I can be an all rounder or even dilettante in everything. There are ten trillion books called "Introduction to [broad and important field]", even if you only have one of each field.
Shitloads of reading along with a shitload pretension thrown on top telling you that you truly cannot no nuthin unless you have an in depth understanding of the Greeks / Romans / Christianity / USA / WW1 / WW2 / financial systems / or shitloads of other topics I can't stand it. And then there's current events. I don't care about climate change, outer space, inequality, China, the EU, applied, the education system, diversity, Russia, refugees, nutrition, mental health, and more. Admitting just one of these would make me an iredeemable idiot, no doubt.
Has anyone else had similar thoughts? The spooks are powerful and must be removed but their removal leaves your mind in a promordial state that is more susceptible to spooks than before.
Every "thinker" is at their core an utter fucking fraud. Nietzche is a Tony Robbins tier Rorschach test. Science and mathematics provide non trivial insights but only in ultra specialised ways that probably require autism to appreciate. I listen to In Our Time podcasts and Bret Easton Ellis podcasts and I think at heart everyone cares about nothing more than social drama.
I think we all need to man up and admit that money, youth, videogames, and good looks are as good as it gets. But not everyone gets.
I had to contend with this for the longest, truth is philosophy is pretty much like alchemy.
Philosophy as a field used to encompass all of science, physics, mathematics, psychology etc but all of these fields became kind of veered off and became more specialized. If you studied any science sufficiently you'd have more insights into philosophy and our place in the universe than any philosophy major.
Another difference between science and philosophy is that scientists don't worship peoples ideas from 100,200, 300 or a thousand years ago. Science recognizes some of it was wrong and some of it was correct and we build off it. Modern intellectuals and non scientific thinkers worship these old philosophers who make tons of assumptions and projections completely ignoring psychology and neuroscience that would run contrary and explain why people do things in a more accurate fashion.
It happens in the sciences too, people still worship Sigmund Freud for example. If you are curious about your place in the universe and what it means I tell people to look torwards physics.

this is some old pasta right?

>business & finance What don't people understand about this?
Chase Johnson
Read last sentence i clearly talked about money there
Kayden Torres
>What is epistemology the post You can't even say whether the universe is a mental construction or something external brainlet. That's what philosophy & metaphysics is about. It's "what is causality anyway" and "what makes a statement true or false", not "why does water boil at temperature x". I get it redditfag you FUCKING LOVE SCIENCE, it's cool. But you have no idea wtf philosophy is about.
Anyway
Caleb Robinson
Sounds like you’re just trying to cope about there being people smarter than you. Nietzche has nothing to do with a Rorschach and I bet he’s probably the only philosopher you know anything about.
Aaron Ortiz
>I mentioned money once so this isn't just some drawn out blog post on my own intellectual laziness Sure thing user.
Robert Wright
overall good post but a) nietzsche was based b) positivism sucks
Angel Gutierrez
You were lucky to be born in a universe with a strong force just strong enough and the weak force just weak enough for decay, gravity and electromagnetism. You were lucky to be born with enough of a cerebral cortex but also with stupid monkey fingers for tool building. Dolphins have a larger and more complex brain but no fing dings. Buy link and be your lucky self man

>I can't stand philosophy because of all the unfalsifiable garbage Philosophy is about axioms, which at the end amounts to what you believe in. Same goes with Math, I can create axioms in math that make interesting things happen such as making i an imaginary number that means (-1)^.5 which is otherwise undefined. By doing this it opens up a whole new field of math up, but that is only if you accept the axiom. Similarly, you can close down things like this but just rejecting the axiom, ex: 1+1=/=2. Even though it is useful its an axiom at the end of the day, and similarly logic can break down easily if you reject axioms.
I personally hold that all theories are wrong, but some are useful. If a model has high explanatory power, and has a high ability to predict then its a good model, be it metaphysical, or be it empirical. You should look at philosophy likewise. Nietzsche claims that intellect destroys, or as other later on down the line put it de-world something. I think this has been shown to be the case again and again. Thus, its a metaphysical model, but one in which is supported through its explanatory and predictive power.
This all is to say I disagree with your first statement. Power is power, be it from our empirical observations or from reason.
Also what this user said,

Whether the universe is a mental construction or something external is irrelevant as of now, its like debating gods ethnicity. Too many assumptions and not enough observation man.
Look at you making assumptions about me lol. This is what philosophy and philosophers are like, chill out, go learn some first order logic, learn some math.

Dude how much of a pseud can you possibly be? Fucking get a hobby.
This OP. Go enjoy something. >money, youth, videogames, and good looks Are not all there is unless you're a brainlet faggot who can't learn to beautiful things. Try great literature, or art. Try hallucinogenic drugs. Try obsessing over Japanese idols. Try traveling and understanding cultures you've never been exposed to. Try gardening. Literally fucking anything that isn't this bottom of the barrel arms-length slop.
Hunter White
lmao this physics is literally just presuppositions, inference and unfalsifiable models that cant account for underdetermination
Joshua Howard
guaranteed you cant do any proof based math and would flunk out of real and complex analysis if you tried taking it
Jordan Mitchell
Just read Mishima and relax user, Also this isn't business and finance
I only just started mishima with his first two books. Dostoyevsky also talks about that wordless glory and the abstract feelings that can't ever be communicated only shown. Trying to get my six-pack back and make sick gains mentally as well as cryptolly
Brayden Roberts
This is too long and I'm not going to read it.
If you're not all in on Chainlink at this point, you must have a mental deficiency. This is literally the 4th industrial revolution and it's going to be powered by link. Google, Oracle, Microsoft, WEF, (coke,Mcdonalds?) We've told you time and time again, but you choose to ignore and buy scam coins instead. At what price will you neck yourself? 100? 1k? 10k? 81k?

Did you ever stop to think that you have already BEEN "spooked," as you put it? Its called hypernormalization. They overload your brain with information, with each information required specialized insight to full understand. Your brain eventually flatlines and the eventual end result is what you see in the mirror. This isn't meant to be an insult, youre just one of the countless casualties of the information age. If you can't wake up every morning and be amazed at the sheer complexity of this reality, then you've already lost. They dumbed you down, drained your curious nature, and repackaged you into a generic NPC fit to be a worker, nothing more and nothing less. You are the problem, if you are not working to become a better person than you were yesterday, then your life is truly meaningless.
