This is part 1 of a major release. It will be released today, and part 2 is set for release October/November. It will me a major milestone for IOTA as it becomes enterprise ready. It will be the most advanced crypto out there within end of this year. And early next year we will take away the coordinator and it will become the first truly dezentralised crypto in the space. Trumy exciting times ahead of us. Finally the companies are able to build and adopt IOTA in to their products. And ill tell you, its alot of them! Will be a storm of partnerships, usecases and adoption comming our way real soon

I didn't realize there was so many companies trying to get involved in the internet of things. Are they all going to use the iota token though? Since they can use the protocol with 0-value tx, how's the token supposed to gain value?

Its not only internet of things, its just a meme that IOTA is only for that. IOTA can also work as an immutable data-layer for supply chains and encrypted medical information among many other things.
