I've actually seen this disconnection from reality a lot. Advertising all boils down to market research, and there really is no bias. It either sells or it doesn't. I've seen clients say that they "dont want to degrade women like that" or "our audience isn't into that" so many times(fun fact: half naked gorgeous women are more effective at selling to other women than they are to men because it sells women on what they wish they looked like).

If we're selling a bikini (for example), I'm going to try to get some banging hot 10/10 showing as much ass and tits in that fucking ad as I can without it getting rejected by the publisher; it just does better every single time.
