you're forgetting a couple things: 1. reinvested dividends compounds the number of shares, which pays more dividends, which reinvested compounds more shares, etc.
2. the companies I own grow their dividend annually, almost always outpacing inflation. this is in addition to share buybacks and price appreciation.
3. I won't need to sell any of the underlying assets, especially during a 30% decline in the market.
i did this in 2014 to pay for my living expenses when I moved and was in between jobs. don't do it.
