I felt this exact same way when I bought chainlink in late 2018. Never invested into anything before, buying crypto and even moreso an obscure crypto like chain-link completely went against my boomer fathers financial wisdom of just hoarding savings. My hands were unironically trembling as I made a coinbase account and hovered my mouse over the "buy btc" button. I had never done anything like it. Several times i almost lost my nerve. I knew i was going into uncharted waters with my precious savings. But I knew with no risk comes no reward. I now have a decent stack of link i never would have had if I hadnt taken that jump.

Money is inflationary, so that's what you should be afraid of. The govt print out more money whenever they need it (and are doing it right now at a fantastical scale). All the money that you'll ever make in your entire life was just printed by them in the time you read this, because they can.
If you were to hold cash over time you'd be broke. That's why in 1960 the average income was 5k. Money depreciates.
No one is going to hold your hand, and I'm not saying there aren't times to hold a reserve of cash (right now is probably a good time with market volatility and a possible bubble).
Bitcoin is probably the safest bet if you're going to invest in crypto. But I think ETH has more to gain. As far as altcoins (I like Hex, SXP and CRO) go find a project that you understand completely before investing. Good luck.
