Changing careers

How do I change careers biz? Currently, i work for a construction company in the quality control field, which is similar to inspections. I am making 25/hr with decent benefits, but it is soul crushing work. I am basically a dead end at my company as nepotism rules the hierarchy here. Thing is, my pay is above average for my field of work. I feel trapped here, like I'm wasting my time to learn or do something new.

Also, I'm a 30 yo boomerfag with 3 kids, which is why i haven't pulled the trigger on doing something else yet.

What does biz suggest?

i'm wondering should i grind it out a learn a better trade? i kind of want to switch career field all together. Getting old working in the rain, heat, cold, snow etc

Hey bro. 32 yo boomerfag here.

I can't comment on your situation as I don't have kids but the grass is always greener on the other side, until it isn't and I've tried this before and regretted it big time.

Are you able to provide for your kids?
Can you pay the bills?
Are you able to save a little every now and then?

I would not jump careers during this pandemic.

I'm also in a dead-end job but it is very cruisy. Not much is going for me but it would be suicide to try and change careers right now.

If you're able to invest I would look into that. If not for yourself, at least your kids 10 years down the line.

>yes
>yes
>yes

Its set up for me to coast in out, but this company has become very unstable these past two years.
I'm having a hard time coping with the fact i'll be a mindless drone forever at this point

Exact same situation as me. Deadend soul sucking position at my job, outside year round, deal with shit people all the time, 3 kids, etc... My wife makes decent money which makes it easier to start a new job. I am almost done with my 4yr degree as well, trying to figure out where and how to apply it. Sucks only having experience in a single field which has been my hangup. I understand the want to provide stability for the family and such. I would suggest though, you not let yourself stagnate and really start hating work till you find something different. I did this and brought it home to my family. Which created stress and problems as you can imagine. It's hard to start over but, your young enough that you can still do that and provide for family. Money might be tight for a few years but, you'll make it work if you really want it to. I made college work somehow with 3 kids, and a full time job.

Lemmy was the man, man. One of his rooms were filled with nazi daggers and bayonets

Unstable how? With it being unstable that potentially creates opportunity for you to move up the ladder, create a new position, etc..

construction inspector here, this is truly a soul sucking line of work user, but the pay keeps me showing up every day. following this thread to find my way out before this career consumes my last will to live.

Thanks for the advice. What degree did you take up?
unstable as in they are bleeding money, mostly because of poor decision made by upper management, who are unqualified and lazy. BUT, they are friends with the bosses brother's, friend's cousin's barber, so its OK. Hire them at top wage even though they have no experience.
and there's a good chance they will close in 3-5 years they way the books are looking.
we are the most undervalued, under appreciated, and shit on position in construction. but without us, literally no one would get paid.
