just watch trading volume. if the volume is higher at the trough than at the peak of a selloff, it means that whoever sold it in the first place only wanted to accumulate more at a lower price. if it's higher at the peak than at the trough, it means the buying before hand was a ruse to drive up the price, and the top you just saw won't be revisited for some time.
