I don't think you fundamentally understand. The stock market is a meme market. Very few companies after their IPO actually issue new stock. Very few shares of the whole are publicly sold. The incentive to keep share market cap high is because the board holds shares, and are incentivized to keep shares high to a degree where profit is actually less desirable than stock price increases. E.g., it's preferable to decrease your profitability and buyback stock than it is to actually improve your business fundamentals. >Why does anyone actually care about stocks then? Because people use them as an investment vehicle. Seriously, if suddenly the stock market shriveled up and died, huge institutions would just be shit out of luck with their investments. Stocks in our current economic system are essentially a scheme that depends on another buyer to buy your bags.

Went from +34% to -3% at one point, now +1%. I'm not too worried desu, Amazon is a majority of my portfolio and they WILL announce the split soon, I can feel it.
