Is putting my degree on hold and joining the army a good financial move?

Im basically worth nothing, a couple thousand in crypto, sub 1000 dollar shitter car, living with my parents done 2 years of (((university))) so far and basically wracking up student debt studying biology. I've already decided Im not going to go back to school until we are meeting in person again because I need connections and lab experience if I hope to have any sort of career prospects (biotech). Right now Im driving shitty postmates for some side cash but between that and living with my insane parents Im getting fucking suicidal. Is joining the army for some time, getting the paid off school + some money and a way to live away from my parents worth it ? Any anons done this path?

I don't know man. Generally you want to do the go to college thing and get a deferred enlistement so you can go from college to being an officer. So you can use your degree and retire in 20yrs with a damn good pension in your late 30's. I wouldn't join the army just for student loan forgivness. Need more than that now a days.

Op take the asvab and get a score good enough to get a intelligence job, The 35 series MOSs. Choose whichever one gets you the best bonus, or whatever sounds the most interesting to you. You'll get a top secret security clearance and after 3 years you'll be out with alot of money in your pocket. You'll have the GI Bill and the security clearance can get you a job starting at 70k minimum. It's worth it just to get out of your parents basement/shitty hometown. Godspeed

Same boat, but I got my degree.
Already swore in, just waiting to go to bct.
You'll be making shit money, and you'll have to put up with a lot of shit. You'll go in as an e3, barely making 2k a month.
Plus you'll be forced to live on base, living with a total randy and having to deal with more shit.
If you go in as an officer, you don't gotta put up with any of that shit.
You have more freedom, you don't have to live on base, you make waaayyy more money, and you don't have someone breathing down your neck 24/7.
Ocs today is a joke, and now with corona fucking things up, bct right now is a total mess and also a joke.
If I were you, I'd get that degree and then join.
Have them pay off your debt, and make fucking bank as an officer.
With the benefits, including bah and the g.i. bill, it's more than you can ask for.
You'd be living very comfortably.

To counter this guy's path, 20 years in the army is not a life worth living, and there's more potential for money outside the military. Also while you're an officer, your job for majority of the 20 years would be administrative(think military/government bureaucracy). Fun for officers is few and far between in the military.

I was enlisted.....don't be enlisted.

>studying biology

jesus fucking christ kill yourself idiot. what a waste of time

Yeah... its not good but I didnt know better. Im also studying computer science so Im hoping I can get a job in biotech because that field is probably going to really take off in the next couple decades

>Those mutts
I hope we decide to do something stupid like invade iran so that we can clear out some of this genetic filth.

All the shots you're going to get in Basic will give you chronic mudbutt and adult onset autism. Enjoy, faggot!

wtf I didnt know about this
Im very anti vaccine
well

Do they look at your gpa or grades?

Joining the Army is no different than going to prison for a few years. You lose your dignity and your brain power. Some of your soul. Baggage. Your brothers are garbage and/or as lost as you are. If for some strange reason you're not miserable then everyone around you will be.

If you're an antivaxx in some kind of anti establishment way of thinking while also looking to join the military, you're a absolute retard and have no hope. You'd be directly working for the government

>1 mick, 3 mutts
oh say can you seeee

And if its because you don't agree in a anti-science kind of way while also trying to get a degree in biology, you deserve to be driving postmates for the rest of your life.

Don't join the Army, join the Air Force. They'll treat you better for the same exact pay, though you're still treated like shit during training. Also, looking into joining the guard if your state provides decent benefits.

chekd. OP air force or coast guard and try to be an officer faggot

Armytard here, I did dual enrollment and got my AA degree but didn't have the money to finish it. I joined at 19 am 21 now. Honestly it was the best move i ever made and i don't think I will go back to college. Really just depends on your MOS. If you ever join look for 88L, it's my MOS but its really nice. I plan on being a warrant officer, no degree needed all that is required is the school they pay you to go to. Good luck fren

the soldier is the biggest idiot and coward there is and becomes a double slave, taking orders without questioning, fighting to enslave himself and home even more and lied to about the real reasons he is fighting in the first place.

What kind of dumb nigger joins the Army to work on boats?

>anti-science
just saying something is anti-science does not make that thing anti-science

Nah, thats for suckers and losers

the army has a large fleet of seagoing assets which are basically risk free posts lol.

In the army you get shot with everything regardless of your medical records. You will get all the old vaccines you had as a kid too (+ the new ones).

Don't forget your anthrax and "peanut butter" (Penicillin) shot too.

Being mostly in administration is good thing in my book. Less risk of getting shot

Disgusting.

Op all these people have no idea what they are talking about. If you join to do an intel job(or anything administrative) besides training, it be more or less the same as having an office job for 3 years. The anons telling you to also look at airforce are correct, they do have better living standards. I just said army cause that's what I did and they have more money and job options to throw at you.

user, I think you should finish your degree and attempt to go to OCS, preferably Army but any branch will do. (with a stem degree you may be more viable for Space Force, as well)

I did Army OCS after graduating college in 2009. Instead of GI Bill, I chose the Loan Repayment Plan. So, every year they paid off a third of my loans , for three years. I also only owed 3 years obligation due to OCS' commissioning source.

I stayed in 8 years total and made Captain. Was clearing about 94k a year when I got out. What is interesting, is that after my obligation ended and I didn't resign, I slowly began accumulating Post 9/11 GI Bill. I left about 2 weeks after it maxxed out.

Now I went back to school, got a second bachelor's from a private university, and I am entering their graduate program in just a couple days.

Get degree, go OCS, choose LRP, stay in and get GI Bill. You're going to want to go officer no matter what. Bless the enlisted, but if you can get a commission it's completely worth it.

Plus if you stay in long enough they usually will send you to graduate school while making Captains pay, I know a buddy who got the army to pay for grad school and now a phd, and he will probably teach at west point or the naval academy at some point before he's done.

While true, you have to contend with the worst the military has to offer. The lowest skill dumbest recruits do the office and "intel" work, for the most part. Hopefully you're directing some good 'ol boys and not diversity hires.

"Intel" requires the highest ASVAB scores of any jobs even Special forces and is full of mostly people with degrees or some college. Most intel offices will have liguists whom the army taught a language to. The army is not sending the dumbest people to do shit like that. You don't know what the fuck you are talking about or even what "intel" is. OP Intel is Intelligence agencies like NSA, NGA, DIA..etc

You're not smart.

This is it OP I'm intel in the AF and when I get out with my experience and ts clearance I can basically go work for any three-letter organization or anything in the private sector making good money. Just don't let your recruiter fuck with you at all it's your future.

Did army for college money

> young and stupid
> Ranger
> badass training
> college paid for
> degree in Mathematics
> pretty good corp job, consulting
> own nice house and car, good life

Friends from back then are mired in college debt or working dogshit jobs.

Would do it again BUT would have looked for cool job like intel or linguistics. Would absolutely join space force.
