How are you guys doing looking for that precious 9 to 5 soul crushing wagie job? For me, it has been hell. Six months and only 2 job interviews.
> civil engineer. Final year into my PhD. > start looking for jobs. Create accounts on all major job search websites > expand my search as much as possible looking for jobs in oil and gas industry, buildings, water, offshore, research, etc > contact my network (all the people I even remotely talk to) > 30 annoying job applications later, where you have to fill again and again your personal info to each company's website, I get ghosted or automatic fuckoff responses > my network, even though they sympathise with me, hasn't lead to nothing
damn, i get emails all the time for job offers lmao
Adrian Gonzalez
>phd in civil engineering
wew. did you specialise in geotech or something?
Christopher Bell
6 months without a job?
Literally every single supermarket is hiring amazon warehouse is hiring, a retard could get a job there and it's like $15/h plus overtime Most other warehouses are hiring too
Nolan Miller
30 applications? Lol that’s nothing. You have no right to complain until it’s over 100. And you will get there
Ryder Rivera
Kind of true. Although, according to all these wagie articles, you need to change your CV and cover letter to cater to each company. It takes quite some time to look out the company and write why you want to work there (I just want to be a wagie ffs!)
Leo Jones
It is a combination between structural and water engineering. I did experiments and numerical simulations. I have publications and I did conferences. I have 1.5 years of working experience (before starting my PhD).
I DID EVERYTHING! WFT DO THESE COMPANIES WANT FROM ME?
Cameron Scott
No, I started looking for jobs six months before finishing my PhD. Now, I am really close to finish without any serious offer
Parker Nguyen
Please, I just want to be a wagie. I will give you my sould if that's what you want. I will slave for you, big nose
I was in the same boat as you in Ontario, got 3 interviews for shit tier technical sales jobs after 4 months of searching. One of my resumes somehow made its way to a recruiting agency in michigan and I got 5 interviews in a day, and they all offered double the salary. Sorry for the anecdotal advice, but maybe expand your search to other states? Good luck man it's fucking rough out there
Daniel King
I make $50hr delivering grannies and neck beards their pizza and groceries, nigger. Plus right now people cash tip like crazy “THANKS FOR BEING MY HOUSEHOLD HERO”
Enjoy never finding a job in your field. You’ve been lied to all your life
I give my dashers 5-10$ tips, delivery is probably good money. One of my dashers was an old co-worker from McDonalds and she's said she made around 600-900$ a week
Jack James
>tfw tradechad with more work than ever right now have you considered pulling yourself up by the bootstraps and getting a trades job user?
Joseph Perry
> Enjoy never finding a job in your field. You’ve been lied to all your life
NOO.. I refuse to believe it ! I will spark clean my wagie cagie, I will dance and sing the corporate songs, I will give firm handshakes, and I will gladly lick my big nose boss ass... don't take my wagie cagie from me!
David Flores
In my experience, I did a more catered approach to job applications.
Samuel Gomez
Wouldnt I need to be back to study? Wouldnt it be weird with a PhD?
Carson Garcia
Can you give me some details? Maybe I am doing something wrong that I haven't even realised yet
you dont have to tell em you have a phd, but i know guys in my trade who are former engineers and employers consider it a major plus if you do something like hvac or electrical
Juan Martin
yeah it is like on tinder if you are ugly you need to swipe right at any fat bitch as fast as you can on all opportunities you are given. to me it sounds like you havent accepted yet what a loser you are. but dont worry thats 90% of us, you will eventually strike, but you wont become an astronaut kiddo
Hudson Kelly
just join the military desu
Brody Barnes
OP the real answer is that it’s okay to hunt for a longer time if you are a specialist, simply because demand is 10000x less than those for other non specialized job, but your salary should also be way above market rate when you find it.
The other real answer is that you should try and ask your professors / people from uni about it who taught to you, they would feel obliged to get your foot in the door because they taught you this. It will work. Contact them in person though.
But the real redpill answer is that you should start your own business. You are on the board that pisses on wagecucks
Gabriel Thompson
he's too good for that, it's not like there wouldn't be some branch of the military that would give him solid benefits plus an advanced position for having literally any degree
Juan Edwards
Well it was a couple of years ago now, but basically I would look up the company on wikipedia, their website, even the news if they're big enough and see anything in their recent history that might "align with my values" (they love that kind of shit)
A more specific example is that with my current employer (Wall St Big 4) is that I found thru their website a philanthropic project they worked on to help a charity, in one of my 1-2-1 interviews I brought it up casually in conversation and how being a part of that sort of thing would interest me, and I could see the guys' eyes light up like "fuck this guy has done more than just memorise our share price".
