Lightning is getting better but there is still a pitiful amount of bitcoin locked in it. The reason for this has nothing to do with whether lightning sucks, the reason is because besides a few drug purchases here and there people actually don't give a fuck about using crypto for payments.
Once discrete log contracts take off more in lightning it will enable derivative trading and gambling within lightning channels, and that's what will actually drive liquidity into the network. People want to gamble and leverage bet way more than they want to buy crap, which is why there is more wrapped btc on eth than in lightning right now.
DLCs are the killer app for lightning
