One time I gave this homeless dude $10 and he just grabbed it while not saying a single word or thank you. I haven’t given money to any homeless people since. Only exeption was I gave this one poor dude (didn’t seem actually homeless just struggling hard) a couple dollars one time and he was so happy it looked like he could cry and he told me he would shout me out in a rap song when he was able to record again. It’s polarizing

Yes. I keep $50 in my wallet for this sole reason. I only give it to people who ask me directly. Anyone who says they will just buy xyz, or to buy food etc... instead is totally missing the point of giving them money. You’re not giving it to me to feed or house them, you’re giving them an opportunity to use it to improve their lives. If they choose to squander it thats on them and its none of my business.

Absolutely not. One time when i was young and dumb i was feeling generous and gave a nigger a cigarette and all he said was "gimme anotha one". After that all homeless can OD right in front of my feet and I would briefly look down then go about my day.

To be clear i dont give them money because theyre homeless. I give them money because they ask. If anybody asked me for money i would give it to them.

Additionally, I live in a country where theres no way to be legitimately homeless unless youre really trying. To that end, its safe to assume everyone who is homeless is hopelessly mentally ill and / or abuses substances. So its more about making someones day easier, then it is about changing someones life. Like holding the door open for someone, except instead of a door its paying their dealer.

I never give money to homeless, there are so fucking many of them in my city and they’re all drugged out. Like other anons said you give them something and theyll just harass you for more.
