It's a deflationary crypto index fund. Everytime anyone buys, sells, trades, transfers STA, 1% of that trade's worth of STA is completely burned from the total circulating supply. Also, you can pool your STA in a balancer fund with ETH, BTC, LINK, and BAL, and the pool automatically buys/sells the various coins in accordance with their price fluctuations. Both really simple ideas, the deflationary aspect, and the index fund aspect, but together, STA is a guaranteed winner.

It literally isn’t. An index fund tracks the price of the underlying assets within its parameters. This is a token that is traded and goes up and down according to supply and demand. It will never be and is not related to the financial instrument of “index fund”
