Pay well? Yes. Not destroying your body? Not really. Specifically, the problem is usually with knees because you're lifting shit and/or kneeling all the time.

Yes, but in the future it may not he considered a trade. Right now most IT roles are treated as trades and you can qualify for most positions through a technical college. I hope it stays this way but its only a matter of time before a liberal arts degree is a requirement.

It's hard not to drink every night when you work that hard. Walking and crawling around with a ton of tools takes a toll after a time.

T. Ironworker here. Everyone is a fuckin drunk. I just quit cigs because I broke my arm awhile back and needed to take every advantage to heal so I can get back to slaving. I find myself having 2 or 3 beers a night now instead of the occasional 1. It has to do with the need for some dopamine because no matter how you look at it trade work is fuckin rough and depressing.

It helps more if you learn when/how to use your knees properly. The issue is more mechanical than mere weight. Knees are a loose joint so they feel the most pressure when you are doing anything (even just standing). The only thing keeping it "stable" are muscles/ligaments which can tear or stretch which is the real issue and can make some people nearly immobile.

Go to the gym and learn to use the squat rack, if you can do a great squat then you'd use the exact same mechanics on the job.

This is probably the best move for you. I had a friend do bootcamps without a degree and he just lied on his resume to land jobs. The key is to list employment with places that have >10000 positions. If you can just put a friends number down. He now makes over 50 an hour. Otherwise start picking up some low level IT certs and land a helpdesk job. From that monkey branch into better IT positions.

BFA in jewelry/metal. Could be more useless I guess. Learned a bunch of metalworking and other skills and enjoy working hands on but the jewelry trade pay is so so. Would rather not be working harder for less.
