So I got myself a first-class engineering degree from a decent university and now I'm in debt up to my fucking eyeballs (around £60k) due to student loans. After graduating I moved to another country (I have dual nationality there) and I don't intend to come back to the UK, except to occasionally visit friends and relatives. I also don't intend to ever pay off these loans.
I'd like to know if this is a fucking terrible or amazing idea.

To all the Yanks in this thread; UK student loans are slightly different to yours. Student loans in the UK are a state enterprise, and you pay them back automatically by having a portion of your monthly salary deducted. If you don't earn above a threshold the monthly deduction doesn't trigger and you don't pay. It still accumulates interest, but until you earn above a set amount repayment doesn't trigger. After 30 years the debt cancels automatically.
OP can do this with no negative repercussions - it's in the conditions of the loan. If he never earns in the UK, and never earns above a threshold then he doesn't have to pay back. The UK taxman is beginning to come after UK citizens earning in other countries, but all he has to do is become a citizen somewhere else and he's set.

It's happening in the US now too, the Chinese are going to university there and then moving back to China to settle and innovate. And in the meantime the native students are getting fucked by the huge increases in debt, a lowering of standards in the education system and a lack of job prospects after graduation. How many new graduates are finding themselves unemployed or only managing to get barista jobs with their meme degrees now?
The USA uses an almost identical system to here, you just don’t hear about it because it’s actually possible to pay them fully off in the USA due to the low debt (average grad has like 25k there) and high earnings (average grad starts on 50k)

I earn £30k currently and i'd have to earn £50k+ today to pay more than interest. It's a joke. A joke which is designed to keep you paying the 9% monthly until it get's "written off" at which point you have paid 3x over the principal. It's likely that some far left government will get in and write off a bunch of this "debt" before the write off date anyway.

I think the only town in the country worth living in is Shrewsbury. Because it's just far enough from major shitholes to be undesirable, whilst still being white and large enough to support an actual economy. Also Telford i think acts as a buffer region to absorb fleeing shitholers.
