What do you do user

nothing, can't you read

I "work" as a software engineer, maybe get 4-5 hrs in a week when it's busy

What are you drinking there?

Just water mate, I don't drink

I fell for the mechanical engineering meme. I'm surrounded by boomers. Please help I want to try working from home before I kms.

Cheers

Same. It’s hell. IT/Finance/Software bro’s please advise us. How do we get the fuck out of this career path? I’ve been working in the office this entire year, been wearing a mask all day for months now.

Get into the Tekkie side of engineering.
There must be engineers that used to work around you on the PC mostly, that now work from home? See what jobs they do.

Buddy I'm the engineer that works on the computer 100% of the day and these boomers are still hell bent on showing up to the office every day. I do CAD 'work' all day.

Get into a niche, get the job, work hard as fuck first 6 months and earn everybody's trust. Ask to work from home and do nothing

Work towards a job in cyber security... I get paid to do my hobby and don't get arrested for "hacking" into companies.

People pay me for it xD

Why is it dark yellow?

You're so lucky user. I'm too retarded to sit down and force myself to study for the 50 certs it takes to get an entry sec job

What steps do I need to take? And how quickly can I realistically get a remote job in the field?

Grab yourself OSCP and most companies will snap your hand off. Massive shortage of cyber security professionals, at least in the UK at the moment.

If I become a software engineer is that what I can expect? Will I be able to go to the golf course during my downtime during the workday?
do you drink caffeine?

Once you become good at your job yeah

Of course, I love coffee and it's good for you

don't get into IT unless you enjoy teaching boomers how to use iPhone apps.

>t. control system programmer

I wouldn’t go out anywhere personally but it can be done if you bring your laptop.
Essentially the role is “be available” for 8 hours a day.

I was lucky, managed to get on a cyber retraining program where a company paid for my initial training and offered a job on the condition I passed all the exams.

Things like that pop up all the time on LinkedIn.

Other than that work towards network+, security+ if you're just beginning. Learn your way around the kali operating system and experiment with the tools on there. Set up your own pen testing lab using virtual machines. Aim for OSCP and CEH (only if youre american)

I only did 2 hours of work today. I think it's time for a power nap, followed by a nice brunch.

Can u dweebs give some tips on how to get a remote job? I have a bachelors in mechanical engineering. Next paycheck I'm really considering doing a front end or data science coding bootcamp mostly for the networking opportunities they provide. Can someone tell me if I'm being retarded? I'm in Seattle btw

Fucking based whiskey pepe

You fucked yourself already with that degree but maybe if you find a niche and start with a small company you could do it in a few years’ time.

lols also in seattle.

Also, lols bootcamp.

More like rape camp, you pay money for nothing and have nothing tto show for it.

I've met and fired programmers that do a boot camp, barely know how to setup an enviornment and then bitch to help desk about permissions.

I do a 1:1 with them, see what they have, question if they're a diversity hire and then have them walked.

If they're a diversity hire, blah, need to keep them up and have them actually fuck up several times.

I'm an EE who was in electric motor design up until a couple weeks ago.

In a coding bootcamp now so I can move into software development.

I feel like a lot of engineers and tech minded people are flooding to coding right now because its seemingly a secure role, WFH/location independent, good pay, interesting. I'm doing it with the intent of moving into blockchain development personally.

I'd say do it. If you can get with a big tech company (like amazon) in data science you're going to make beaucoup bucks.

We're all in this together fren
