>I see pokemon card thread about prices >I get curious and read into it, shadowless 1st edition is the best >I open up my folder >Almost everything I have is shadowless 1st edition, they all look great at first glance >I was an avid trader and collector as a kid and have all 3 starters, Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, Mewtwo, Raichu, Clefairy, Chansey, 2 Zapdos, NidoKing, Alakazam, Gyarados, red cheek pickachus, Electabuzz, Ninetales and Hitmonchan, among others >I get excited and look them up on Ebay >Nearly have a heart attack >But wait the big bucks is only PSA 9 and 10 >I learn about how PSA hates chipping on the back borders >I look at my set again >Nearly all of them have chipping on the back borders
How fucked am I biz? Pic related is Chansey. Clear chipping on the top. Every card is similar to this, with greater or lesser severity. Should I even bother with PSA grading? How picky are they?
what do anons think about Nintendo Switches NIB as a buy and hold for future resell value? they are discontinuing the origianl release and theres some special edition ones too.

There are some things outside of your control like border alignment that is entirely dependent on how it was printed, that alone prevents a psa 10 If you have any issues on the card, like the ones you mentioned, or scratching on the holo portions, it's not even going to get a 9. If you aren't going to get a 9 or 10, don't bother sending it to get graded. You are better off trying to sell it on ebay without grading it but calling it near mint or whatever you think you can get away with. But also be aware that people will try to fuck you out of paying you since ebay heavily sides with the buyers and not the sellers.

How much can I get for my princess peach amiibo, I only hotglued it twice.
Noah Miller
I have zero knowledge about it but speculating I bet just having all of those 1st editions is still worth it. just get them graded as they wont be getting any nicer over time. Even lower grades would prolly still be good money right?
John Russell
You're already too late.
Levi Scott
Kinda too blurry to tell but that looks like a PSA 6 to 8 (being very generous assuming the front is spotless). You could save some time and money and get them graded by CGC, they just started grading Pokemon and MTG cards. PSA has a return time of ~6 months right now. You will get more for a graded card than ungraded.
I have 7 Switch consoles I'm holding to resell around Black Friday and 2 or 3 ill save for the next year.

how? there are still retail prices online and in stock. wasnt super interested until I realized a lot of the old gameboys I've sold are going for decent prices even used. Great idea for black Friday, didnt think of that. wanted to hold for like 10 to 15 years maybe just to see if it pays off.

>You need 9 or 10 Idk user, I'm looking on ebay now and there are some 1st ed cards selling for $500 to $1000 that are 7 and 8.
Cooper Sanchez
An 8 charizard is still gonna be worth over 5k usd I dunno I kind of agree with Just try sell as is, good time to sell IMO we're at peak hype. The only card that is worth holding is probably a charizard just cause one day someone might pay 50 for a psa 10 or something
John Peterson
You def want to unload several for the holidays. I invest in sneakers as well and have a ton of pairs to dump for markups. But as for the Switch, sell a few for the holidays and I think you have a good idea for a long term hold.
Your hot money right now is with the next gen console preorders. I'm making like $500-$900 per week running slots for them.
>spend hours digging through storage to find cards >finally find them >not a single one is 1st edition >get overwhelmed with nostalgia, want to kms now
How do you avoid getting fucked as a seller on ebay?
Hudson Butler
Damn I really didnt think of that for the holidays, thanks user. Finally built up a decent collectibles store this year, will def use this strategy and buy a few per year to hold and sell. Dont know enough about preorders but ill look into thanks. Did try shoes when I worked in the mall a few years ago and made decent money since you can be there for the limited edition releases and collabs but the hype drives that market and I'm too slow to keep up with it. Thanks for the advice m8

I literally sold my entire binder of cards to the card/toy shop in 2001 for like 10 bucks. And I know for a fact I had a 1st edition charizard. Fuck
David Anderson
they are actually not as bad to sellers as people say sometimes. especially if you are a large anchor store. have a small store and they've been pretty helpful with closed cases in my favor. Stay in very good standing and have great customer service and response to questions. Calling their help line used to be really great, try and get white people if you can.

With those back chipping in your OP image alone the most you’ll ever get is a 6. This looks like a flawless front, but if there are any microabrasions you’ll be bumped down to a 5.5.
You can view the standards on their site. An 8 can only have at most two edge chips. You’re right, they’re pretty autistic.
Josiah Sanchez
Np and good luck, lad. Another tip for anyone else with collectibles, dump some of your older inventory for the holidays. Even if you have shit like common Funko Pops or something, it’s going to sell the closer we get to the holidays. Even do mystery boxes with collectibles and fill them with shit that’s harder for you to sell.
Sure you can get some extra cash for a lot of uncommon, common TCG and sports cards too.
I can't believe PSA 9s and 10s are selling for that much. I get that are kinda rare but they can't possibly be THAT rare. Just look at how many anons on Zig Forums find old charizards from when they were kids. There have literally got to be tens of thousands of people around the world with 1st charizards in their basements. And maybe a couple of hundreds of those (1%) are PSA 10s. The supply is artifically low because most people don't know just how valuable their old pokemon cards might be and haven't bothered to look. But as more and more normies hear about this they will get curious and look through their old cards. It's only a matter of time. This is NOT like extremely rare basebll cards where only a a couple of hundred were printed or whatever. Hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of 1st base set charizards were printed. On top of that you have all the recent hype and surge in prices (in part because people are bored at home). Pokemon might be a decent long term hold, but now seems like the worst possible time to invest desu.

>The supply is artifically low because most people don't know just how valuable their old pokemon cards might be and haven't bothered to look. Most people with old pokemon cards played with them as kids. This means no sleeves, cards were directly exposed to the cement of playgrounds, and decks kept together and bent with rubber bands. Newer cards are definitely kept with bigger care nowadays since the 2nd hand market and products like card sleeves has gone more mainstream than when it was and people understand that pieces of cardboard can fetch good value.
Kayden Allen
I took "good" care of my cards and it looks like they won't be worth much, despite them being shadowless 1st edition. It looks like a few can be worth something (ironically the more common cards, pikachus, bulbasaurs, etc) because I touched them less as a kid. But for the vast majority of my cards, they arent worth much.
I guess they sell for that high cause who the hell actually has a Charizard, Blastoise, Venosaur that hasnt been touched? That's 9/10. I mean fuck all of my holo super rare's are ALL CHIPPED, why? Cause I fucked around with them as a kid. The other cards I have are in better shape and might be 8's.
