I've seen plenty of good shit never finding its market. It's not that easy to make money out of talent, sometimes you may risk spending more searching for your clients than you'll earn selling them something.
Just like good product doesn't inherently sell because it's good, shit product can sell well even though they have no inherent value. Never neglect the luck factor.

On furaffinity.net at least, YCH images are the way to go. You sketch a pose, with enough detail to show that it will be good when finished. Then post the sketch with either a flat price or an auction (starting bid, minimum increment, autobuy price). Furries will throw money at you for the right to have their personal character be the one in the finished image. For best results it helps to link examples of finished images you have done. Over time you will accumulate watchers and it gets easier and easier to line up customers.
