when you buy from a gun shop they do a background check, where the gun shop clerk goes to a back room to call (i believe) someone at the PA state police to run your information and check for anything that would disqualify you from purchasing a gun: felonies, domestic abuse charges, etc. i'm assuming the fake name alerted the police on the very first purchase and rather than shut down the sale the police instructed the clerk to allow the sale so they could set up a sting operation. state police, FBI, DEA, ATF, etc. operate a lot down here. there's a lot of crime because we're like 30 minutes from philly and only a few hours from NYC.
