This. My grandma died and I used all 40k I got to pay of 36k in student debt. I am one of the lucky ones but literally took the death of a family member to get out of it. But I was also not paying and it wrecked my credit. And now, even though my score is 740, I still have trouble because the missed payments stay on your record for 7 fucking years. Honestly I would just move to another country if I was in debt like some people who owe the price of a modest home and didn't have a high paying job.

You will run out of opportunities to postpone your loans, all the while interest in building up. Eventually they will demand payment. You can live just below the poverty line and make extremely small payments in hopes to be have the loan forgiven in 10 to 20 years but every single year you'll need to prove your income level to have the option reapproved. Did you think you could just postpone payments the rest of your life? You're wildly naive if that's the case.
