Ever since the Carter administration, when the federal government and the supreme court demonstrated that the feds can change the rules on you at any time, no one has been willing to finance new plants. Something that takes 40 years to return its investment and can be rendered unprofitable by a single executive order is doomed.

My opinion is the best energy is 2 massive pools at different elevations. Where water is the potential energy when pumped back to the pool at the top. Nuclear may be an improvement from acid batteries, but both are cheesing energy at the sake of the environment in my opinion, i.e. not permanently sustainable
Side note to show im not completely biased, current windmill technology is probably the worst given all the waste and oil used anyway
