Personally, I use pivots and fixed risk. Usually I risk about 1% of my account, I fix this amount on Monday and keep it fixed for the week. I position myself as R / (entry - stop loss) (obviously), stop loss being set depending on structure (on a breakout, it's under the recent lows of the structure; on a bullish triangle, it's under the latest pivot low, on a 3bp, it's under the low of the 2nd or 2nd and 3rd bar, and so on). I also only trade if there's no resistance above for at least 1.25R, and prefer avoiding anything that doesn't have at least 1.5-2R headspace. I have used all-or-nothing (you set stop loss and take profit, then let it ride), pivot-based (you update the stop loss under the latest pivot as the trade progresses, letting yourself be stopped out OR exiting on a parabolic -- this additional condition is critical to success in my experience) and bar-by-bar (every time a bar forms after the 3rd or so bar past your entry, you increase your stop loss to below the previous bar). I have my best success with AON because I very easily get exhausted, so my performance degrades very quickly throughout the day and I have to therefore keep to playing high-momentum plays. Pivot works best if you're not fidgety, otherwise you might disrespect your plan and stop early. Since this is all stats, you end up fucking your E[R} by doing this. With pivot, you virtually always take either -1R (loss) or +3-5R (gain), but with lower win-rate. Bar-by-bar is great if you're fidgety because you can move your stop loss quickly, so in practice you virtually never have a 1R loss, you'll maybe get -0.2R as a typical loss, but only 0.8-1.5R as a typical gain. AON, of course, is fixed. It all works, it depends on personality and skills (a good bbb entry is not a good pivot entry, etc.). Most important are to stay consistent and collect meaningful statistics about your trades, then adjust as needed. But not too fast or you'll just flipflop and lose.

this place is so fucking retarded these days. if you post gme its time for bed.
No i understand that, i just don't know how im supposed to have faith that any given setup X with risk:reward structure Y is going to be profitable, so even if i lose 5 in a row i just keep doing it knowing in the long run i will make money. at the end of the day no edge can really tell you when price will actually go in a direction far enough to be profitable or not. why should i have faith that any system will work profitably in the end, even if it has in the past why should i assume it will also work in the future?

I know the coomers are hyped for the inevitable coomenating, but can we talk about MVIS for a minute? >ENTIRE market is blood red >These motherfuckers are up almost 5% in a day What's going on here? Is this really just people waiting on Q3 earnings? It's pretty odd to see such defiance of the market trends. It's basically solely because of these niggers that I was green today.
I bought a big amount of CAT calls I’m feeling good about this or maybe it’s the crack and my dead brothers daughter’s, my niece’s, feet giving me a foot job
Not really honestly. We pumped on 0 news last week, so of course you should expect a dump on no news. Especially when a lot of the market took a massive shit today. I bought before Q2 and bought the dip afterwards. You should expect the +/- 10% a day swings by now.
rkg what do you think aapl is going to do in response to earnings
Jose Russell
>even if it has in the past why should i assume it will also work in the future? Christ, you're so neurotic. You don't but fundamentally, all these technical setups don't just magically stop working, unless you're referring to some obscure bullshit being peddled by scam artists.

i would feel more apathetic about it if i hadn't averaged up with horrible timing (again) near $15
no more averaging up with my paycheck, this is definitely my cut off now. Q3 could definitely be another harsh dip

Buy TQQQ Wednesday at the dip for a short rally to AMZN AAPL FB earnings. Buy TQQQ Tuesday and gamble hoping MSFT doesn't dump after reporting beat earnings
Anyone have tips on how to write covered calls so that you don't get assigned? I know that you should write on a green day if possible, is there anything you should look for with the Greeks or price of the underlying?
