It’s not a meme, it’s reality. Back then BTC was the only big thing out there but now things are different, there are a lot of projects out there to choose from and they all do it better than BTC. The only reason BTC is still around is because it’s the poster boy for crypto and sooner or later people will realize they’re throwing money into old tech and it will crash. That's fine but there are about 70,000 cryptocurrencies/tokens currently in existence. There is a long trail of dead bodies where people thought it was the next big thing, turns out it never got adoption and just sucked. Ripple being the prime contender.
