Income tax doesn't go anywhere. The state prints all the money it needs and distributes the rest into the economy. Income tax "burns" some of this money away so the economy doesn't undergo hyperinflation.

Property taxes (theoretically) really does go towards local and state governments; but these same local govts ultimately take a ton of the printed fedgov money anyway to actually function.

Ultimately it's all a big grift.

Are taxes the reason why most people have to start from square one?

I've been thinking it over and there's something that I'm beginning to realize that upsets me. If your family has existed in a country for over a hundred years, and they haven't been totally dirt poor the entire time, your family should have an estate. An accumulation of wealth passed down from generation to generation. This mentality seems exclusive to the elites, but surely generations of boomers and greatest generation have the wealth to have gotten this going in full force. Why is it that only the Donald Trumps of the world get that head start with a "modest loan of a million dollars" and we're all starting off working shitty jobs.

The more that I think about it, the more that I don't get it. I don't come from a poor family, maybe taxes are the culprit or maybe my family is just stupid with an individualist mindset.
