The problems in the US economy from SARS-2 will have long-lasting impacts. There is no "V-shaped recovery". There are millions who are permanently out of work, the labor participation rate is garbage. bls.gov/charts/employment-situation/civilian-labor-force-participation-rate.htm The vaccine will not be widely available for a long time [April is the estimate I've heard recently] and even after it is widely available, it will not change consumer behavior for a long time. Nobody is going to get the vaccine and buy a ticket to go on a cruise the next day. It's going to take a long time. You are not thinking about the tens if not hundreds of thousands of small businesses that have gone bankrupt during SARS-2. This is going to be a drag on the economy for years. You might see consolidation of the big players grabbing the small business market share, but the economy as a whole will be in dire need of stimulus.
I agree with your point that the government believes that it no "longer has a reason to save the market" - but it will lead to our downfall. We already heard Powell testify to NABE and Congress the dire, dire need for stimulus, to go heavy handed, to not go too light, that this will only work with both fiscal and monetary policy
