This virus is too contagious to contain without an extremely restrictive lockdown like china’s which will never happen in the west. Nobody is going to weld our doors shut and lock us inside. What’s going to happen is either enough people are going to get infected to build a herd immunity or a vaccine is going to accelerate herd immunity without waiting for the virus to naturally run its course. But something tells me this virus is going to be more like the common cold where the antibodies are temporary and the virus will not go all away. Even with a vaccine.

Even if Covid is ever gone, it sets a precedent where lockdowns will be the response to new outbreaks of other diseases. When something like swine flu comes again, they can use it as an excuse to lockdown. Maybe they won't even need a disease in the future, they can always come up with other justifications.
