there is literally no such thing as any "alt season" and there never was. everything is just riding BTC's coattails.

btc did relatively shit in 2017. It lost 60% market share.
3 years later it still can't process more than 144mb/day

i agree with that statement, that is true for a small portion of participants. but people talk about "alt season" like it's some predictable regular occurrence that has been around for a long time. people who came in during 2017-18 and have ill-conceived ideas about this. alts didn't have any "season", they merely had a totally irrational fomo during ICO mania. Everything else has failed to tread into the deep end vs BTC since that time

If there is an alt season it probably won’t be for at least a year. No one with half a brain cell is investing in any defi/alt shit because of how risky and unprofitable it is right now.

There was an alt season just a few months ago... everything multiplied with the defi boom

It is hard to predict when it will happen next though. it's a natural consequence of the hype the comes with Bitcoin highs as the excitement flows into the rest with people seeking more gains & low barriers to entry for many of them.

I've been looking for what best indicates the start of more alt involvement. Probably Eth breaking highs, when Coinbase app rank for iPhone crowd & google trends increases showing retail is entering.
Litecoin & XRP are moving with bitcoin & they're the old school "normie" coins, so maybe it's beginning now.
