i mean, i literally boxed where they have applied in the past, on multiple occasions, but okay. i'll agree with you in the sense that TA isn't going to be able to account for spikes on news but that's not the point, i use the channel to determine what qualifies as "high" or "low" compared to the institutional standard of the 200 hour MA. buy low sell high. if you think GME is a good company that can skyrocket eventually you'd be looking to start buying around the bottom of the channel, it's a zone of value. it might keep going up beyond the upper channel but as you can see 9 times out of 10 it doesn't stay up there long before returning to the mean.
i say this as someone who bought at $10 and sold half at $15 and am still holding my half. i could have bought again in the $10's but i like my safe position right now because it's still a meme stock, but im just saying, theoretically, i could have bought there and would have been right in doing so.

the 200 SMA on the hourly and daily are used by institutions, as well as the 50 and 20 to lesser extents. that's why i based the keltner channel off of it (another user came up with the idea and uses the 16x with a VWMA on the daily for TQQQ to determine where to sell and i believe 4x below to buy, but it's a similar concept). i've posted this vid a couple of times but it's a good watch because i respect jared a lot: youtu.be/caLyY6kNihw?t=2462
when a guy who hates indicators and trades entirely naked charts for price action and volume patterns tells you the ONE indicator he actually respects, you should listen. i use the hourly because i want to take more trades over smaller time frames with swing trading, but i can also show you pic related on the SPY on the daily for example during the covid crash. it's just that generally on the daily it gets to the bottom waaaay less frequently, and you'd be holding positions for waaaay longer. in most cases on the daily, excluding crash style events which happen maybe once a decade, you're better off buying at and below the 200 itself.

yeah it's ToS. MA's and the keltner channel are both free and common indicators though, literally every platform should have them. the key is using them on specifically the hourly and daily time frames with the 200 as the basis. you can also play around with the ATR multiples if you want (i use 10xATR but another user uses 16x, play around with it if you want).
you don't have to believe me either look at charts with it for yourself and see how often it respects the 200 itself (bounces off of it) and the extremes of the channel (roughly, sometimes it's exact but usually it's just an area which is why i like to DCA).
