LINK token has no necessary utility within chainlinks plans or stated goals. The only utility outlined is paying oracles, which can accept any form of payment. The token itself is a speculation that for some reason the market will want a coin that otherwise has no use

Yes. All of the fanboys focus on how useful these chainlink Oracle/data feeds will be. This may be true, but they then assume the token LINK must have this usefulness as well...when there's no evidence of that. As a market participant, I would prefer to have a token that is otherwise useful AND can also be used for paying Oracles. So virtually any other non shitcoin > LINK.

Link is the only form of payment accepted by the chain link network as it is the unit of account and the source of the transfer and call standard. No token no transfer and call.
But you can make it easier by building adaptors for your smart contracts which convert payments to link at time of settlement.
Link provides economic incentives for good behaviour. Link is paid out to node operators for completing work. Link provides proof of reserve for wrapped assets like wrapped btc and wrapped binance coin.

initially the fud was to allow accumulation but also to keep reddit out of the project and make them buy at $10+
some of the fud was ingenious such as that link was a biz shill coin. this was spread to reddit and remained a dominant narrative until the spike to $20 earlier in year
now it continues but at much less intensity in order to keep newly arrived redditors into selling early or switching in and out of coins
