Stakenet has been stress testing it's lightning swaps with bots lately to see how the lightning network scales. As you can see they are off to a great start.

Within a few years I expect Bitcoin defi to become a real way to earn interest on bitcoin due to layer 2.

Probs before Christmas. Turns out connext is a lot better than raiden and the devs have been testing it for weeks. I hope the closed beta will get to test eth in the coming weeks.

Indeed it's still very early, basically a concept atm. However there no denying that within the next few years earning interest on Bitcoin will be possible and im not talking about wrapped bullshit here.

Crypto is a huge space. Quite a few third party developers have come up with various blockchain solutions outside of Bitcoin forks. Why not just use Bitcoin as a store of value and transfer said value to another blockchain instead of using endless layer 2 "solutions?"

You can already do it with renBTC but OP is right. Everything we're doing now is probably just a stopgap solution until fast L2 matures.

taproot and new updates coming to btc will allow smart contracts on the platform. so you own the wallet and keys to your btc, but you are also able to earn interest on it, among many other functions.

Bitcoin defi is still in the extremely early stages, however once it gets going it will give people another reason to hold bitcoin. Sure for most people they will buy alts to stake/earn interest on but for btc maxis this is something that makes them cum.
