Even with a discriminating detector you can’t rely on ID’s right, you may get soda can pull rings or silver rings on the same ID, gold is somewhere In the middle of the range, but the surrounding material, depth, size of the metal object etc all impact that and you may simply miss stuff

If I’m not trying to build a discriminating detector then it seems easy and I could simply make a coil with many more turns for more inductance for greater range, and an op-amp to amplify the signal, feed it 12v or 24v with 1 or 2 of my 3s lipo batteries as the driving power. Use a diode and resistor to clip the output signal to 5v.
