And it makes sense. China’s rise, from the perspective of its people as well as any objective observer, has been stunning. Xi has taken that new power and is starting to really project it out to the world. There’s no reason the average Chinese person would not be proud to see that. They’ll all be fed on stories about where China was 100 years ago and will be able to objectively see that what they’re doing is working. It’s making them richer and making their country stronger. They’ll be able to see that much of the (((human rights))) stuff is blown up as propaganda by others who don’t want the competition. And as covered above, the parts that aren’t overblown propaganda are fine if it allows thee country to continue to succeed.
As far as the disappearing: not many people are going to care. The majority will just get on with things. This is evident in a number of countries, the one I’m most familiar with being Egypt. People are being disappeared there too, but for the majority, the government is better than what it was under the Muslim brotherhood and they’ll happily ignore some cracked eggs if it means progress and preventing a return of the brotherhood.

I got the feeling that many of the millennials and younger aren’t super hip on the CCP, especially if you go where the music is being played. There’s a growing punk scene in China that’s pretty anti-CCP.
