I'm convicted of assault and carrying a knife. Is there a big risk employers will look at my criminal record and think I'm convicted of assault WITH a knife? If so, maybe they will think that's a lot worse and it will be worse for me. I have a few days left to appeal the court order, hate myself for procrastinating, time is almost up now. I don't think I can be acquitted of the assault conviction and probably not have it lessened either, but I MIGHT be able to be acquitted of the knife conviction, even though my public defender says he doesn't think so, but he's a faggot and I don't trust him. But is it even worth the hassle to appeal the knife conviction or should I just let it be? The court thinks some people stopped the assault, but they didn't actually do that. Do you think that affects the sentence?

It's a type of knife that you are allowed to carry, they said this in the court order, however they said because I was aggressive while carrying it I'm convicted. That's what my public defender stated as the reason he thinks it won't be overturned, that I was aggressive while carrying it. The reason I think there MIGHT be a chance to have it overturned is that I didn't answer questions at all at the trial, but I realized afterwards I should have answered questions about the knife if they had any. I let my public defender talk instead and what he said about the knife was fairly accurate, however they might think that because I didn't want to comment myself I have something to hide.

I'm in Europe, people are telling me there's no difference between a private defender (what American's call a lawyer) and a public defender, it's the same people who do both jobs here. I don't know, maybe the same person will do a better job if he is hired privately compared to when he is public defender. I was thinking of getting a private defender for the trial but I got the idea too late so I just kept my public defender. I think maybe the best advice I got online was to change my appearance, but I didn't realize this until after the trial so it's too late for that now. I only have a few days left to appeal so I don't know if I have time to talk to a lawyer about it. I sent questions to my public defender but he was playing dumb in the reply and is an unhelpful faggot. Maybe I could send in or hand in an appeal to the court and then get a private defender to join me if the appeal is taken up, i.e. if there is a new trial, which would probably be only for the knife. But maybe the knife thing means nothing anyway and I should just let it be.

I've been arrested for some serious crimes (which look real, real bad on paper) in the past and unless I am trying to work with the young or vulnerable then they don't do a criminal background check here in the UK.

I'm in Western Europe, don't want to say which country in order to be anonymous. I was recently interviewed for a menial job which is not involved with the young or vulnerable and yet they asked for my criminal record.

Your country clearly has different laws then.
