I've had to hire candidates for my team and I work in a giant corporation. I checked their social media just to see if I had anything in common with the candidates so the interviews wouldn't be awkward and they could relax. Worst I saw was some girl's silly high school pictures with comments from like 7 years ago, nothing damning. Even if I did see something weird though, I genuinely think using social media to judge candidates is terrible and would try extremely hard not to let it influence my decision.
