Lots of potential things. History, macroeconomics, politics, culture, communication, leadership, psychology, game theory,. and on and on. These things actually have some relationship to the human condition and human desire. They are things that are actually interesting to talk and know about and give you some insight into human behavior.

Literally no one cares about the clever php hacks you spent months thinking about and implementing on the back end, they are just gonna be pissed off when your code doesn't work, and never appreciate or recognize your effort or knowledge.

something that happens when you're coding all day is it becomes something you think about even off hours. You'll have strange dreams where you try to approach real world situations like you would with code, you suddenly get solutions to random bugs. It's just something that takes over a good amount of your day's worth of mental energy and, you have to make an active effort to stop thinking about work. At least if it was in something healthcare related or something similar, I'd feel like I'm contributing to something useful, but the main thing I'm working on is optimizing code and building features to drive up engagement on a shitty app. The money is good though, and it's been funding this physical product that I'm working on.

Yep 100% This. I have worked in network engineering / cybersec for almost 6 years now and I want to pivot out to do something else. There was a brief time where I ended up getting restructured to the finance department (long story), once i was on finance i realized that none of this tech shit matters. No one outside of tech gives a shit. The real money is on the business side. IT/Software devs are just plumbers.
