I have colleagues that are in their mid 30-40s that literally live paycheck to paycheck despite having a regular or even upper wage. They are lost, nothing can change their fate.

I know a family of doctors that were making over a million combined, but got fucked during the lockdown because the wife's job closed down. Their bills were literally over 75k per month because they have 5 homes, at least 6 cars, private school for four kids, etc. You can be a wage slave at any income level.

My 401k is my backup plan money, I put in 6% per month which goes further with my employer match. Don't touch it and don't look at it, if my other investment pursuits fail I have something to lean on in my 50's.
